Creating
a renovation or addition is much like building a new home, but it
requires more compromise to work within an existing framework. These
projects also offer ample opportunities for creative solutions, and
Amy relishes these challenges.
Like new homes, the process requires determining needs, setting
a budget, verifying site conditions, checking code issues, preparing
drawings and being involved to completion. However, additional requirements
include:
- Field measuring existing residence to create an accurate
base drawing.
- Verifying field conditions to determine any design
or construction limitations/opportunities.
- Anticipating unforeseen
situations due to conditions that exist "beneath
the surface."
Special care must be taken during construction to insure the solution
is aesthetically pleasing, well constructed and flexible enough to
effectively deal with unanticipated conditions that can occur during
this process.
“Our project involved adding on over our
garage. Some of the folks we talked with said 'It can't be done.'
When we talked with Amy, she said 'It will be challenging, but
here is how we can make it work.' In the end, she not only achieved
everything we wanted, but she gave us some extra space we were
not even expecting.”
